According to the EPA, 24% of trash thrown away by apartment communities is organic waste that can be diverted from the landfills. Diverting this waste from landfills is crucial as landfills are filling up at an unsustainable speed. It is estimated that within the next 50 years the majority of our landfills will have reached maximum capacity.

In addition to diverting waste from the landfills, composting will positively affect your trash bill because many of the items usually thrown in the trash, can be either recycled or composted, which will lessen the amount of pick-ups needed at your site.

How it Works:

  • Each apartment will be provided with a countertop compost pail.
  • Residents will place a compostable bag in the pail and fill it with compostable waste.
  • Once full, residents will tie the bag shut, close and lock the pail and then place it outside their door during the designated time.
  • IW representatives will walk the entire apartment community collecting the bags from each pail.
  • IW representatives will deliver this waste to a nearby composting facility.
